Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales, in 1916. After suffering a ‘monumental bash on the head’ as a fighter pilot during the Second World War, he became the author of beloved classics such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG and Matilda. When he died in 1990 The Times hailed him as ‘without question the most successful children’s writer in the world’. For more information on the life and legacy of Roald Dahl visit
